Moises Llanes
Moises Llanes is a lifelong music educator whose journey began in a crib surrounded by Beethoven and Brahms. Inspired by a father with only an eighth-grade education who believed in the power of classical music, Llanes turned early exposure into a 37-year career transforming orchestral education in the Rio Grande Valley. As a high school student, he identified a critical gap—music illiteracy—and built his teaching legacy on empowering students to read music independently. From overcoming cultural identity struggles to returning from retirement to teach at Lorenzo de Zavala Middle School, Llanes's story is one of passion, resilience, and purpose. His message to educators: "If you’re not going to do it 110%, don’t do it at all."
